Broja is so happy he stayed put

“It’s about the feeling, that you feel the confidence and sometimes it’s having a bit of the luck.

“Somebody sent me an interesting quote about Napoleon. He asked his generals that they should not only be the best quality but also a bit lucky. And this is what you need also for leaders and for goalkeepers.

Mistake

“They can have the kind of momentum that, if they make a little mistake, it’s not punished…

“He gets punished for not a lot of what he does wrong. We have two fantastic keepers, two fantastic guys.”

Napoleon, of course, eventually ended up a loser and Tuchel, even if publicly refuting it, will recognise only a VAR howler spared his team from dropping more points.

As for Arrizabalaga, who failed to engineer a move back to Spain this summer, the German is full of praise.

“He checked his options. They were not satisfying for him nor for us. So he stayed,” explained Tuchel, still to lose two league games on the spin at the Chelsea helm.

“I’m very happy about that. I was always very

Hammers boss David Moyes did not hold back when labelling the home keeper“a faker”for his antics after being clipped by Bowen’s leg.

Robbed

The Scot branded VAR ref Jarred Gillett’s decision“embarrassing”.

Moyes, whose robbed Hammers were eventually sunk by Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz strikes, said: “We’ve been denied a goal… for no reason.”

Meanwhile, Tuchel insisted PierreEmerick Aubameyang was the last thing on his mind as the Blues struggled to break down dogged West Ham.

The new signing watched from the Stamford Bridge stands on Saturday after completing his deadline-day switch from Barcelona.

And that situation is set to continue a little longer as the ex-Arsenal man recovers from a broken jaw.

Tuchel said: “I just watch the game and think about what we can do in real time and what we have on the bench. It’s my responsibility we’re ready to fight any battle, that we have answers.

“Auba will be a huge part but first he needs to train with us and this is a struggle at the moment.”

ARMANDO Broja could have been lining up for West Ham rather than Chelsea on Saturday had the summer panned out differently. But niggling preseason injuries and a glaring lack of a genuine centre-forward in Thomas Tuchel’s squad meant the Hammers’ interest in the young Albanian was doomed to fail.

That decision to stay at Stamford Bridge, which included signing a new long-term deal on Friday, looked even better after the win over the Irons.

Broja, who spent last season on loan at Southampton, played his part in the victory. The second-half sub provided a focal point around which to launch a dramatic fightback.

Supported

He later said: “There’s no better feeling to be playing for my boyhood club and the club I’ve supported my whole life.

“You see speculation on the news but I’m here and I’m delighted to have signed my contract at this amazing club.”

Broja claimed to be unfazed by the deadline-day arrival of former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.

“He’s a great player. He’s done a lot in his career. I can learn from him,” said the 20-year-old (left).
