Sunshine on its way back but no more heatwaves

FESTIVAL-GOERS may have had a washout at Electric Picnic over the weekend — but sunny days will be back for the rest of the week even though forecasters at Met Eireann say heatwaves have ended for the year.

The persistent rain from yesterday has slowed down and for the next few days the weather will be mainly dry with warm sunny spells.

Gerry Murphy from Met Eireann told the Irish Daily Star that the heatwaves have ended, but the weather for September is still “quite warm”.

Mixed

He said: “Monday will be a fine bright day, then the evening and night will see rain pushing up from the south.

“On Tuesday and Wednesday and into Thursday there will be a mix of sunshine and showers during the day.

“Some of the showers will feel very heavy but it will be reasonably warm, and temperatures will be up to 19 or 20 degrees.

“That will be the picture for the country as a whole this week, these bands of rain will be moving up from the south, and will be heavy enough in places with temperatures in the high teens or low 20’s.

“But it will still be bright and warm and not everywhere will be affected by rain.

Weekend

“During the summer we had two very hot and dry spells, one in July and one in August.

“That has come to an end and the weather now is more typical of Irish weather bringing us rain, sunshine and showers, so it’s not as warm as it was, but it is still reasonably warm with temperatures good. But they will drop back.”

So far, weekend weather forecasts show any heavy rain will ease with Saturday and Sunday seeing more dry spells.
