FIVE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT ‘Neck stab’ dad kisses his son in hospital

A MAN who was allegedly stabbed in the neck has posted a picture of himself in hospital — two weeks on from the incident.

Donal Percival (37) was rushed to hospital after he was allegedly stabbed at his home in Father Murphy Park, Robertstow­n, Co Kildare at around 2.30am on Sunday, August 28.

In a recent social media post, Mr Percival uploaded a picture of himself in hospital, kissing the cheek of his young son.

He also thanked friends and supporters for their well wishes writing:“Thanks everyone for all the well wishes much appreciate­d.”

The update comes after five people were recently arrested and charged in connection with the alleged assault of Mr Percival. Aaron Hannify (24), Sandra Hanafey (49) and Gerard Hanafey (53), all of Churchview, Cooleragh, Coill Dubh, Lisa Hanafey (28) of Churchview, Cooleragh, Robertstow­n and Shane Byrne (34) of Oakfield, Clane all appeared before Naas District court on August 31 charged with assault.

Bail

Appearing before Judge Miriam Walsh, the court heard there was no objection to bail being granted for the five ONLINE POST: accused.

Donal Percival Sergeant Dave Hanraham asked the court for a number of conditions to be attached to the granting of bail, including that the defendants sign on twice a week at Clane Garda Station between 9am and 9pm.

The conditions, which also included that all five provide a mobile number and be contactabl­e at all times, were granted by the court.

The accused are also required to surrender their passports and not apply for travel documents.

The court heard that they also must have no contact with the alleged injured party or witnesses and must also stay out of Robertstow­n.

Judge Walsh adjourned the matter to November 16 for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns.

Speaking to this paper previously, neighbours described Donal ‘Doney’ Percival as a “lovely fella” and said they were in shock over the alleged incident.

“I know Donie well. He’s a lovely fella. This is a shock to everyone,” one said.

“He’s a lovable fella. Hopefully he pulls through.”
