COSMOS RAJ IS RED-DY TO STEAL SHOW

-

THE Best bet today comes at Redcar, where the ground should ride good but no quicker and that is excellent news for backers of COSMOS RAJ (3.28) in the Join RacingTV Today Handicap.

The selection caught the eye despite finishing last at Ripon last time on ground described by Timeform as good to firm, but his record on good through soft is excellent, and the easier surface gives him a big chance from the pick of the draw in this 1¼m handicap.

Cosmos Raj has a career record over 1m+ on ground described by Timeform as good, good to soft or soft which reads 12251221321. He is dropping in grade after shaping well for a long way at Ripon last time and looks to have a touch of class in this.

System

One system that has served me well in recent times is blind-backing Tom Lacey horses making their handicap debut.

Since Lacey got a full licence, he’s sent out 18 winners from 87 handicap debutants over hurdles, showing a profit of €933.90 to a €10 stake at SP.

This ploy has been especially fruitful at Uttoxeter, throwing up four winners from just seven runners for a €380 profit to a €10 stake at SP.

SYR MAFFOS (3.35) makes his handicap bow after finishing third in two novice hurdles to date, and appeals on the system.

I fancied the Derek Shawtrained SEABOROUGH

(5.17) to improve his already useful Uttoxeter record here back in July but he could manage no better than sixth, for all that he was staying on late on ground which was probably a little on the soft side for him.

Since then, Seaborough has finished in the frame on all three starts since, and he seems to simply need 2½m these days. He gets that today and although he’s 6lb out of the handicap, all five of his placed efforts here have come off higher marks.
