MULLINS GETS OLD GIG’ BACK

PREMIER League bosses have come under fire from fans after postponing two of the biggest games this weekend ahead of the Queen’s funeral.

Due to growing concerns about the lack of policing available, the clashes between Manchester United and Leeds and Chelsea versus Liverpool have been called off.

Brighton’s game with Crystal Palace was postponed last week due to a rail strike that has now been cancelled but it remains off due to the same policing issues.

The move comes following the postponement of all football last weekend as a mark of respect to the British monarch, who died on Thursday.

Funeral

Extra officers from around the country have been deployed to London to help prepare for the state funeral of the Queen, which takes place on Monday.

Seven games do go ahead, starting with Fulham’s trip to Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa’s clash with

Southampton, which are both on Friday night.

But the decision to can two games this weekend has left their club’s supporters seething and accusing Prem chiefs on social media of not caring about them.

With the international break

WILLIE MULLINS and Gigginstown House Stud are back in tandem — six years after their highprofile split.

In September 2016 it was announced Mullins would no longer be training for the prominent owners, leading to the loss of around 60 horses from his Closutton yard.

In a statement released at the time, Gigginstown — owned by Ryanair supremo Michael O’Leary and managed by his brother Eddie — mentioned increased fees as the reason for the split.

However, that statement did not rule out the pair teaming up again in the future and that has now come to fruition.

Major

In 2019 O’Leary announced a plan to phase out his National Hunt team over the next five years, but Gigginstown continue to be major players in jump racing on both sides of the Irish Sea.

Just last season the Gordon Elliott-trained Conflated carried the familiar maroon and white silks to Irish Gold
