TAOISEACH Micheal Martin said he had a “warm” meeting with UK Prime Minister Liz Truss yesterday — as he also tried to cosy up to Larry the Cat.
Mr Martin was obviously feline good about his chances with the famous Downing
Street moggy as he bent down to pet him.
However, fleet-footed
Larry gave the
Taoiseach the slip as he ran from the scene.
Thankfully, Mr Martin insisted his meeting with Ms Truss went a lot better.
He said: “I’ve had a good telephone conversation last that one of its purposes is “to conclude decisions on the minimum corporate tax rate”.
In 2021, more than 130 jurisdictions, including all EU member states and members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), agreed to set a minimum global
corporate tax rate of 15 per cent. week with the British Prime Minister, had an initial warm meeting this morning where we discussed many issues in the context of the British-Irish relationship.
“But I do think the opportunity is there for us to reset relationships and to be conscious of what we achieved in previous years, the obstacles that were overcome then.
“That gives us the strength to know we have the capacity to overcome current obstacles, current issues that potentially could impede the relationship, and I believe we can overcome them.”
