Clifford inspires East Kerry to crucial win
Football is something he does, it’s not what he is - but, boy, is he good at it.
The Clontarf man’s performance in the drawn 2019 All-Ireland final was one of the highlights of the whole five-in-a-row run.
But what also stuck in the mind was his demeanour in the prematch parade before both the drawn game and replay.
His grin looked like it would have to be surgically removed. McCaffrey was buzzing as he took it all in.
There was none of the game-face, get in the zone bullshit.
He was as happy as a child in sand. Now, the same applies to Dublin fans.
Yesterday was the third Sunday in September, the traditional highlight of the football year. The Dubs will feel like they’ve won something big.
DAVID Clifford hit three points as a sub as East Kerry claimed a second win in the Kerry SFC with a 0-14 to 0-9 victory over Spa on Saturday.
The 23-year-old superstar, returning from an injury which ruled him out against Kerins O’Rahilly’s, was introduced during the second period.
Incidents
Both sides finished with 14 men after East Kerry’s James O’Donoghue and Dara Moynihan of Spa received red cards late on in separate incidents.
Conor Horan and Michael O’Gara scored goals as champs Austin Stacks had a 2-13 to 1-8 win over West Kerry and Templenoe ran out winners over St Brendan’s by 3-7 to 1-12.
Yesterday, Kenmare beat
