Vinny: Clarets in tune 2 1

-

VINCENT Kompany believes his Burnley players are hitting the right musical notes amid the heavy metal of the Championship.

With 16 players coming in during the summer along with the former Manchester City icon the odds were on the Clarets taking their time to be on the same song sheet.

But going into the international break in fourth place, orchestrator Kompany insists: “We’ve all got high standards. When you look back before the first game there was a lot of uncertainty.

“Today there’s music in this team and that’s what we need to maintain. There is a lot of progression which still can be made. We haven’t been perfect but it’s a team that is at least giving hope. Hope is important.”

Crowd

Kompany accepts that followers of relegated sides like Burnley expect a swift turnaround but also admits that is often a pipe dream.

“Our crowd has been fine but there is always a thing where you want to see the ball within five seconds land in the back of the net. May the manager who succeeds in doing that please tell me about it.

“As long as we keep creating chances I believe we are doing the right thing.”

Opportunities did arrive and were taken in splendid style by the old and the new, long term Claret Jay Rodriguez grabbing the winner and summer arrival Manuel Benson scoring Burnley’s other goal.

For Bristol City expectations aren’t as grand. It’s all about improving on last season’s 17th place finish.

Nahki Wells scored their goal against his former club.
