It will click very soon for Parrott

- ■■Paul LENNON

TROY PARROTT’S “football intelligence” has thrived since the striker moved to Preston on loan in July.

That’s the verdict of

Robbie Brady, who has observed the 20-year-old from close quarters since Parrott signed a seasonlong loan deal from Spurs.

Parrott delivered a polished performance for Ireland in June’s 1-1 draw with Ukraine in Lodz — regarded by many as his best in his 15 senior appearances.

And while Parrott and his fellow Preston marksmen have found the net just three times in 10 Championship matches this season, Brady can detect that special quality that has made the young front man stand out.

“Goals have been tough to come across at Preston but Troy’s all-round play has been excellent,” said Brady.

“He plays well above his years, his football intelligence is excellent.

Future

“Troy’s got a really good future ahead of him and he doesn’t want to leave a second to waste.

“He’s a great lad and I do see similarities in him from when I was younger.

“He’s hungry, he’s one of the most determined lads I’ve come across.

“He wants to be better every day and he’s been a breath of fresh air since he’s come in.

“Some of his performances have been really good but the ball just hasn’t seemed to go in the net as of yet.

“It’d be worse if there was no chances at all. I’m more than confident it will click and the lads will be putting the ball away.”

Alex Neill’s June invitation to Brady to spend a few weeks of pre-season at Deepdale proved to be a win-win, with the midfielder signing a 12 month deal.

“The manager phoned me and said ‘You come in and we’ll have a chance to see where you are physically’.

“‘You can come in and have a look at us and see if you like it and the way we’re trying to do things.

“It was pretty straightforward when I went in. There was a lot of factors that suited me and I’m delighted with it and I’m getting the minutes in, which is what I needed.”
