TV presenter Laura Woods says she is lapping up her lie-ins and slower pace of life after years of “hectic” early mornings on Virgin Media’s Ireland AM.

The broadcaster departed the breakfast show last summer during a series of cuts and changes within the station.

One year on, she said she has been “reassessing” her goals and embracing a break after a busy decade in her career.

Laura told The Star: “I think it is no harm to take a step back sometimes so you can see where you are in life, reassess your goals and look to the future.

“It has been a really interesting year, a year of meeting new people and getting new opportunities.

“We are probably conditioned as humans to put our head down, go to school, learn our trade or whatever path it is, and then work, work, work. I am taking life at a slightly slower pace.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Virgin Media, but it was hectic enough with early starts and I’ve small kids.

Sleep

“It has been a decent break to sit back and have the odd lie-in.

“In fact, I think I have been the one who sleeps the most while I catch up on a decade of no sleep.”

Laura also told how she has been embracing having more time with her family as they prepare for huge milestones.

The mother-of-two, who was the face of Ladies’ Day at the Dublin Horse Show this year, added: “We have one more year of primary for my eldest.

“People always say that the days are long, but the years are short, and they really are.

“It doesn’t feel like I have a 12-year-old, I still look at him and see my baby.”
