THROWBACK PIC OF THE WEEK Bid to impeach Trump launched TRIED TO GET FOREIGN AID FOR OWN GAIN

-

ON THIS day in 2019, an inquiry into whether Donald Trump should be impeached was launched after Democrats finally agreed to pursue the US President.

Trump was accused of potentially withholding aid to Ukraine in order to pressure officials there to investigate the son of political rival and Joe Biden.

He is said to have asked eight times for a probe to be opened.

House Speaker and Democrat Nancy Pelosi then gave in to the ongoing calls to investigate the US leader after months of resistance.

Inquiry

The change of heart came after more than two-thirds of Democrats said they supported an inquiry following the Ukraine row.

Pelosi had become convinced

ON THIS day nine years ago, tragedy struck in Pakistan as 515 people were killed by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in the Balochistan region. that Trump’s alleged actions, and the White House’s refusal to share details about the matter with Congress, left the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives no alternative but to move forward with an inquiry.

She said at the time: “He is asking a foreign government to help him in his campaign, that is a betrayal of his oath of office.

“The intelligence community inspector general formally notified the Congress that the administration was forbidding him from turning over a whistleblower complaint on Constitution Day.”

Trump’s response was very much in character:

“I can do what I want.”

After weeks of discussions, Trump was finally impeached on

December 18,

2019.
