LAID TO REST: Briody

THE funeral of Ciaran Briody, who died when he was struck by a bus in Dublin city centre, heard he was “known by all for his sharp witted humour and infectious laugh.”

Ciaran (23) from Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, was also remembered for keeping everyone entertained with his “oneliners”, his many antics and how he spoke so highly of his many friends.

Chief mourners at Ciaran’s funeral Mass at the Holy Trinity Church in Ratoath included his heartbroken parents Padraig and Ann-Marie and brother Patrick, his grandmother Eileen, Godparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

Loved IRISH TV presenter Angela Scanlon is one of the favourites to strike gold in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing as the celebs glam up to get paired with their pro.

The BBC series returns for its 21st run next Saturday — and for the first time judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton du Beke will join in with the professionals in the opening group number, called House of Strictly.

Angela, who fronts Angela Scanlon’s Ask Me Anything on RTE and Your Home Made Perfect on BBC2, is fancied to do well, but the bookies’ favourite is soap actor and son of Jade Goody, Bobby Brazier.

One show source said: “It’s a full routine and it’s brilliant! So great to see them back on the dance floor showing everyone exactly why they are in the judges’ seats.”

This year’s bunch of 15 nervous novices already have a lot to contend with as training for the show begins. while fellow actor Les Dennis is praying the knee replacement he had two years ago holds out.

Former Sherlock actress Amanda Abbingdon is also hoping that a row which left her being unfairly branded as transphobic will not influence the public vote.

The other celebs are comedian Eddie Kada, former Love Islander Zara McDermott, Paralympian Jody Cundy, actor Nigel Harman and radio host Nikita Kanda. The show will contain a tribute to Len Goodman, who died in April.
