Nashwa for Royal crown?

- ■■Jason HEAVEY

NASHWA (3.25) looks a sporting punt to cause a minor surprise in the Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes today.

The filly is enjoying a decent campaign with a Group One success in the Famlmouth Stakes followed by excellent runs in the Nassau Stakes and the Juddmonte International.

On the latter occasion she was a close third to Mostahdaf and Paddington – probably a career best.

Tackles

Today she tackles King Of Steel and Auguste Rodin and there remains a question mark about how strong the Derby form is.

Both colts are coming down in trip while Nashwa has her optimum distance.

Her price of around 6-1 looks fairly generous and better value than the big two.

TAHIYRA (2.45) is hard to oppose in the Coolmore America Justify Matron Stakes and can notch her third straight Group One victory.

Dermot Weld’s filly got the job done in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes without being too flashy and she can see off Zarinsk, Homeless Songs and old rival Meditate.

Joe Murphy’s flagbearer has enjoyed a fine season and there may be more to come after an excellent Group 3 success over today’s course and distance last month.

is going the right way and might be able to gain a second career success.

Narrowly denied by St Leger hope Desert Hero in a Royal Ascot handicap, he backed that up with another fine second to Melbourne Cup favourite Vauban at

is of major interest on his return to the level.

A smart juvenile hurdler last winter, he retains considerable upside in this sphere after just six starts and ran well in a premier handicap here in October. (left)
