EUROVISION hopeful Bambie Thug has described pop duo Jedward as “sweethearts” — as the singer opened up about their plans for the contest later this year.

The Cork star will fly the flag for Ireland with their song Doomsday Blue on May 7 when they perform in the first semi-final and hopefully make the final.

Bambie revealed Jedward came to see them at their London headline show last year, long before they were chosen to represent Ireland at this year’s Eurovision.

They said: “I met Jedward. They came to my London headline show before I even did Eurosong. They are sweethearts.”

They said support for them is “quite an Irish thing”.

“Obviously not the people who I think are evil,” they said, laughing.

Bambie said they know Irish people wouldn’t necessarily like their type of music — but was proud of them “doing the right thing” and selecting them.

“I’m not the type of music they sound or they even know to be honest,” they said.

“I’m just really proud of my country for doing the right thing.

“It’s been an amazing year for people from Cork... there is probably not a better country that I could be representing.

Proud

“Mostly I’m proud to be representing Cork because Cork is having such a good year this year and hopefully it continues.

“Cillian Murphy just won the Oscar. His family live down the road from me and they’ve painted all the postboxes gold in honour of him.” Bambie was speaking on The Official Eurovision Song Contest podcast and revealed how they are excited to change people’s minds when they perform on the big stage.

Bambie said: “I think this is a standout song. It’s in its own pocket this year. I’m excited to change people’s minds mostly.

“I’m excited for people to watch it live and be like ‘goddammit, this is my number one’.

“I’m a polarising act. I think that’s good. It’s good not to be everybody’s cup of tea. It’s good to make people question like, what is this?

“People being upset by me — I take it as a good sign.”

Bambie has also enlisted the help of a “scream coach” to keep their voice in check.

“I have a scream coach who keeps me in check,” they said.

“I discovered screaming after I started songwriting with another artist... It is such a release.”
