GRAHAM BURKE doesn’t hesitate when asked what his standout memory is from all of his previous Shamrock Rovers v Bohemians clashes.
The date was September 27, 2019 and the venue for this particular FAI Cup semi-final showdown was Dalymount Park.
The Hoops ventured into the lion’s den but Burke opened the scoring with an early goal, before Aaron Greene sealed their ticket to the final on a spicy night in Phibsboro.
Greene’s celebration at the final whistle has become iconic among Rovers fans, having whipped off his jersey and stuck it on a corner flag before waving it around bare chested.
A year before that, ex-Bohs man Keith Ward raised a corner flag in triumph in Tallaght, after a late Bohs winner, and then tweeted the image along with ‘Tallaght Is Ours’.
But there’s significance behind Burke picking out that particular meeting of these two arch-enemies over any other.
“Getting over the line in Dalymount and going on to win the Cup, it sparked off the success that we’ve had,” said Hoops star Burke ahead of tonight’s league renewal.
