TRIBESMEN KNOW THE SCORE NOW

- ■■Mark McCADDEN

GALWAY UNITED boss John Caulfield has urged his side to be more clinical as they adapt to life in the Premier Division.

The Tribesmen have scored just four times in their six games so far, netting twice each in wins against Dundalk and Waterford.

They have drawn blanks against St Patrick’s Athletic, Shelbourne, Drogheda United and Shamrock Rovers.

And Caulfield said: “I suppose ultimately, the games we’ve scored in we’ve won.

“Obviously, we have had a draw and three 1-0 defeats to three of the top teams.

“But at the same time we are disappointed over that because we have created chances and we haven’t taken them, and certainly that’s an area we’ve been working on all week.

“We have had a few injuries as well. Wassim (Aouachria) hasn’t played any league game this year and he is on the way back.

Impact

“He certainly, when he came in last year, made a big impact in the secondhalf of the season.

“And obviously,

Stephen Walsh had his suspension. So we have had a few of the forwards out of action.

“But it’s like everything else, when you get opportunities at this level you have to take them. In the tight games, in particular, we have had opportunities.

“All you can do is get back to the training ground, work hard and work on our finishing.

“We have created a number of chances, we just need to take them.”

Tonight’s opponents, Derry City, have been far more clinical with 10 goals to date, but they suffered their first defeat of the campaign in a 2-1 reversal against Bohemians just before the international break.

Assistant manager Paul Hegarty said:

“I have no doubt (Galway) will come here full of confidence.

“They have two top men on the touchline and of course they’ll have their homework done.

“Do I expect us to win the game? Yes I do.

“It’s a home game for us and I’m sure they’ll feel the same way when they play us down there.”
