- ■ Nicola DONNELLY

APRIL Fools’s Day might be the world’s longest running joke.

And yesterday it was no exception with plenty of fake news and announcements that took off quickly and morphed wildly, thanks to social media.

Anyone not aware of the date may well have fallen for some of the cheeky gags making the rounds from media outlets, companies and celebrities yesterday morning, April 1.

We’ve picked out some of the very best jokes played this year from Cork Airport being renamed, Dulux announcing a new ‘scratch and sniff ’ range of paint to Currys offering shoppers a spicy curry for their unwanted e-waste.

Cork Airport announced it is to be renamed “Cork Cillian Murphy International Airport” in honour of the county’s Oscar winner.

The country’s second busiest airport said the name change would take effect from May 1 next with a “full rebrand also scheduled to be undertaken in the latter half of the year.”

Funkin Fruit Farm, the only farm to grow the rare blue raspberries, said it would welcome fruit pickers for the first time on its two-hectare farm in the English countryside on April 1.

Dulux paints announced the launch of their brand new ‘scratch and sniff ’ paint range which included salivating shades such as Chocolate Sprinkles, Hazelnut Truffle, Cookie Dough, and Caramel Cream, it will only take two hours for the paint to dry and the scent to appear.
