Ireland stars have that Morgan aura too

KYRA CARUSA reckons the Ireland team has something in common with legendary USA striker Alex Morgan.

Carusa plays alongside Morgan at San Diego Wave in the NWSL and is getting a first-hand look at the qualities that have made her one of the greatest strikers in the history of the game.

The 34-year-old, who has scored an incredible 123 goals in 221 USA caps, has an “aura” and a “presence” that forces rivals to respect her.

And Carusa believes that the Girls in Green also have a presence that puts opponents on notice.

Confidence

“It’s good to see the confidence and the way a player like that presents themselves amongst the team, on the pitch,” said the Ireland striker.

“It’s wild to think that sometimes there is an aura, a presence, that other people have to respect — which is very much earned.

“That comes from teams knowing what she can do, what she’s capable of, and I kind of reflect that to us, to Ireland.

“There is a presence that we have and there is a presence that we bring against teams that means they just don’t want to play us.

“The respect Alex has, we too have earned that as well.

“As a player, you can see that and it is kind of manifested, what’s keeping another player from being able to keep their shoulders back and walking on a pitch like that as well.”

Carusa is determined to make the most of her time with Morgan.

Notes

“As a forward playing in the same position as her, you kind of take those little notes to add to your own game,” she said.

“It’s class to be able to play with quality like that, and against players like that.”
