BILLION DOLLAR TAY-BY
Swift makes it on to Forbes Rich List
TAYLOR Swift has finally made it into the billionaire charts, but she is a long way off hitting Number One…
The US singer slotted in at 2,545th on the Forbes rich list with an estimated fortune of $1.1billion (€1billion).
While that is still nowhere the $233bn (€216bn) LVMH French luxury goods titan Bernard Arnault has amassed to top the wealth charts, she can no doubt get by on it.
Swift may be a very successful woman in her own right, but she joins a wealth club dominated by men, with all the top 10 billionaires being male. The 34-year-old made her fortunefromherblockbuster Eras tour, the value of her music catalogue, and her property portfolio.
In addition to substantial earnings from her initial six albums, the pop star undertook re-recording them while negotiating with streaming platforms to determine how her music is monetised. According to Pollstar’s 2023 year-end charts, the tour is the first to cross the $1bn mark.
Swift amassed $1.04bn (€966m) in revenue, selling 4.35 million tickets across 60 dates.
If you are struggling in the cost of living crisis, wondering if you’ll be able to pay the bills and feed the family, you may want to look away now – as Forbes also revealed that there are a record 2,781 billionaires in 2024.
That is 141 more than last year and 26 up on the previous record set in 2021, according to the US business magazine.
And the elite are richer than ever, with a collective wealth of $14.2 trillion (€13.1tn).
Legend
X boss Elon Musk, Amazon owner Jeff Bezos make the top 10, while basketball legend Magic Johnson $1.2bn (€1.1bn) also joins the rich list.
Forbes senior editor on wealth Chase PetersonWithorn said it had been an “amazing” year for the world’s richest people.
He added: “Even during times of financial uncertainty for many, the super-rich continue to thrive.”
