Verdict

I enjoy bringing a Fujifilm Instax camera to family gatherings, days out and special occasions as everyone gets a thrill seeing the snaps develop instantly.

The instant prints make a nice souvenir, whatever the occasion.

I’ve loved testing the latest Instax out and the shots it produces are consistently reliable. Shots in the standard modes are sharp with accurate and saturated colours. This camera handles bright or dark conditions better than others in the Instax stable.

Effects

The new filter effects are fun to play around with – these will very much come down to personal taste but in general they are applied in a measured way that is never over-the-top.

The Sports mode and Indoor mode are both useful additions that improve your overall hit rate of great shots. The new self-timer is a dream for group shots on family occasions and I’m very happy with the new flash control.

The broad range of conditions that it can deliver decent shots under makes Mini 99 the best analogue Instax camera so far. It is priced similarly to the Mini Evo hybrid which up to now was my favourite Instax shooter.

Mini 99 is all analogue but whether you think it’s worth double the money of the Mini 40 or Mini 12 will depend very much on your own budget and needs.

■Fujifilm Instax Mini 99 has an RRP of €200.00. The film is €10.00 for 10 prints.
