McCourt summons for Blues

- ■■Mark McCADDEN

ROBBIE McCOURT knows that Waterford face a formidable challenge tonight at

Dalymount Park.

That’s because he has spent so much time working under the new Bohemians manager.

Alan Reynolds left the Blues last week to take over at Bohs and didn’t take long to register his first three-point haul - a

2-0 win away to Galway.

He was in charge of Waterford in late 2019 when McCourt swapped Dalymount for a first spell at the RSC.

After moves to Sligo Rovers and Dundalk, he returned to the southeast side in January, with Reynolds working as assistant to Keith Long.

Looking ahead to tonight’s game, McCourt said: “We know the style of play that Rennie likes.

“He’ll be a good manager. I’m sure he’ll have his team set up well and we’ll know what we are coming into.

“I got on with Rennie. He took me in here in 2019. But he has moved on now and we’ll push on as a team as well. But I’m sure we’ll give them a good game on Friday.”

As for his time at Dalymount Park, McCourt knows what to expect from tonight’s trip to Phibsborough.

Hostile

“I spent two seasons there, so I know what it’s like. It’s a hostile place, Dalymount, but it will be enjoyable,” he said.

Waterford are hoping to return to winning ways tonight against Rennie’s Bohs after back-to-back defeats against Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers last weekend.

Their last Premier Division win was at home to St

Patrick’s Athletic a month ago.

However, McCourt took great encouragement from the performance in last Monday’s narrow defeat to the Hoops.

After falling behind to Darragh Burns’ opener, McCourt’s free-kick levelled things up again, before Roberto Lopes’ winner 19 minutes from time.

“We put it up to Rovers and to nearly every team we have played so far. We just need to keep believing in ourselves and hopefully we can carry it on. But we’ve had two defeats in a row and we’ll try to put it right on Friday.”
