39 TAYLOR-SERRANO SET FOR LAS VEGAS

- ■■Eamon DOGGETT

KATIE TAYLOR is being lined up for a Las Vegas fight against Amanda Serrano after plans for another Dublin bout were scrapped.

Taylor and Serrano are expected to clash at the Sphere in Las Vegas in early June, with an announcement this week.

It would be a second fight between the pair after Taylor won via split decision in a thrilling clash at Madison Square Garden in April 2022.

It comes after talks for a trilogy fight between Taylor and Chantelle Cameron at the 3 Arena failed to get off the ground.

May 25 had been earmarked but those plans have faded and a date for Croke Park for the 2012 Olympic hero seems as far away as ever.

Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn said: “There is a good chance she (Taylor) could fight Serrano next.

“Absolutely, the

Serrano rematch is an option for the next fight. It would be a huge fight.”

Serrano lost a split decision to Taylor in April 2022 at a sold-out Madison Square Garden with the world lightweight belts up for grabs.

Injury

Serrano defeated Sarah Mahfoud to win the

WBO, WBC, IBF and IBO world featherweight belts five months later before she added the WBA title with a win over Erika Cruz Hernandez.

She is thought to be up for a swift bout after a freak injury ruled her out of a homecoming fight against Nina Meinke.

Just minutes before their bout in Puerto Rico was due to get underway it was cancelled, with Serrano deemed unfit to compete due to an eye injury caused by a hair product used two days beforehand.

Since then Taylor moved up to super lightweight to take on Cameron, losing their first bout in May last year before gaining revenge in November.

Now the 35-year-old is believed to be keen on a rematch with Taylor, after the pair’s sold-out clash at Madison Square Garden.

“I think it is the fight that makes sense for Katie Taylor,” said

Hearn. “A Stateside fight is definitely appealing after the success of their fight at Madison Square Garden. Katie wants the biggest fights.”

The Sphere in Las

Vegas seats 18,600 fans in a stadium that has become one of the most recognisable venues in the world due to its cutting-edge technology.
