CHICKEN FILLET IS A HOT FAVOURITE
Sandwich voted top for lunchtime
THE chicken fillet roll has been voted Ireland’s favourite lunchtime takeaway — the top choice of almost half of the Irish public.
The hot, tasty and filling sandwich is a best-seller at garages and convenience stores and has become something of a national dish.
Now research by Circle K reveals that the chicken fillet tops the list of lunches “to go” with 41 per cent of the votes.

It’s ahead of other deli food staples such as the chicken and stuffing sandwich (14 per cent), the BLT (13 per cent) and the chicken caesar wrap (13 per cent).
The phenomenal preference for the chicken fillet has only grown in recent years, doubling in popularity since a similar poll in 2020.
It’s a favourite of secondary school pupils out on their lunch breaks and those workers travelling around the country.
Its combination of crispy bread roll, spicy chicken, lettuce, cheese and coleslaw is a winner with many.
But be warned — it may be tasty and good value, but it also contains about 1,000 calories.
Meanwhile, the breakfast roll remains Ireland’s preferred breakfast food — at 51 per cent – ahead of the sausage roll (27 per cent) and the jambon (12 per cent).
We’re even particular about how we want it served, with 61 per cent liking our sambos cut diagonally, rather than in half (20 per cent), while butter is our favourite spread (62 per cent) ahead of mayonnaise (30 per cent) and relish (5 per cent). Convenience (39 per cent), value (33 per cent) and quality (24 per cent) are the main factors when making our food choices at the forecourt or shop deli.
One in three won’t travel any further than 2km for their food to takeaway, while 92 per cent buy food on the go once a month, with 28 per cent enjoying it several times a week.
Almost half (44 per cent) will spend between a fiver and €9 to eat while on the run.
