ADAM’S SUTTON PRETTY

Hoops hero hailed by legendary striker Chris Frank: Blades still as sharp as ever

OLD FIRM hero Adam Idah is chuffed to get the Chris Sutton seal of approval after the Celtic legend urged his old club to sign the striker on a permanent deal.

But the on-loan Norwich man admits any thoughts of granting Sutton’s wish are on hold while the Hoops are in the fight for the Premiership title and Scottish Cup.

Idah has been a smash his since landing on loan in January with six goals in just nine games – including a cracker in last weekend’s Old Firm 3-3 thriller.

Pundit Sutton – who starred for both the Hoops and Norwich – knew plenty about Republic of Ireland frontman Idah and he’s already witnessed enough at Celts to convince him the hitman is worth keeping.

Idah’s thoughts are only on the present, though, and gunning down St Mirren today before a Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen in seven days’ time.

The 23-year-old said: “I honestly haven’t been looking into what I am going to do.

“My main focus has been on finishing the season and winning as many games as possible.

“That’s the main target for me

THOMAS Frank has warned Brentford they cannot afford to underestimate Sheffield United, despite Chris Wilder’s side sitting bottom of the table.

The Blades head into the weekend’s fixtures nine points adrift of safety with only seven to play.

However, with Wilder’s men having drawn three of their last four matches – including a late rally to take a point against Chelsea last weekend – Frank (inset) is expecting nothing less than a stern test and the team. I don’t know about other players but if I look too far ahead, it can affect me on the pitch.

“I want to finish the season on a high and then see what happens.

“Of course, it’s a big compliment hearing things like that from great players.

“It does give you confidence when you hear the club might want you.

Grateful

“It makes you feel really part of this club. I’m really grateful to be here and I want to give my all to finish on a high.”

Idah is relishing the moment as his move north has paid off.

He said: “I have got a lot more minutes, the manager has a lot of trust in me, the lads got used to me and know my style of football.

“When people have that trust in you and when that first goal comes, you do become confident in yourself.

“Even little things, like having the fans behind you, is huge. That helped me a lot and motivates me more to try to do better.”

Idah’s dramatic late drilled strike at Ibrox six days ago was cancelled out by Rabbi Matondo’s as Brentford look to boost their own survival bid.

He said: “We are facing a Sheffield United team that look much more like a Chris Wilder team, when they got promoted under him.

“The last four games, they have been very much in form, great performances, very good results as well.

“They have more fight and they stunner in stoppage time. But it could still prove to be a huge goal in the title race – even if it did feel bizarre silencing a 50,000 crowd.

Idah said: “Possibly, who knows? It was obviously an amazing feeling.

“Getting a goal in that derby is crazy. When you’re a player who wants to play for Celtic, it’s probably the only game you want to score in. It’s massive.

“Who knows if the goal will be crucial at the end of the season, we will see.

“Having none of our own fans there, it was a bit like Covid times. It was a bit strange. But I am looking forward to the next game now. The aim coming on was to try to get a goal and win the game.

“I am experienced enough now to know that you need to play until the final whistle. We didn’t get too carried away and unfortunately we didn’t get the three points.

“I am really enjoying playing up here. It’s probably the most confident I have ever been.”

Idah is in top form and admits boss Brendan Rodgers has played a huge part.

He added: “There are a lot of things he does with me and the other attacking players in training that you can see I have brought into my game.” are more difficult to beat. They are doing everything I would expect from a Chris Wilder team.

Difficult

“I think he has done a very good job, and we are seeing what he is building at the club now, so I expect a difficult game.

“We need to come out flying and we do that together with the fans – they need to be bang on it again.”
