Ice cream sellers’ cold war heats up
JUDGE HEARS PAIR’S PEACE DEAL MAY HAVE MELTED
A JUDGE has put a ‘freeze’ on a court decision between two rival ice-cream salesmen after hearing a peace deal may have melted.
Jim Chambers (63) of The Glebe, Letterkenny and Stephen Cole (41) of Trentabuoy, Drumkeen had both been brought to Falcarragh District Court following a series of incidents between the pair on Rathmullan Beach in Co Donegal.
The pair are accused of incidents after they set up on the same beachside selling pitch in the scenic seaside town.
The charges include an alleged breach of the peace at Rathmullan Beach on July 19, 2019 and also an alleged assault on July 25, 2021 at Rathmullan.
The case had been adjourned until this week to see if peace, which had previously broken out between the pair, remained in place.
However, Garda Inspector Seamus McGonigle said there had been an indirect incident arising out of the cases.
Because of this he asked the court to adjourn the case for another two months to see how matters proceeded before the summer.

Solicitor for Mr Cole, James Canny, said he had understood that peace had been found and was not sure what the indirect incident involved.
Judge Eiteain Cunningham said the court had already given the defendants latitude in the matter.
Inspector McGonigle said he was applying to have the cases adjourned for two months before the summer period was embarked upon.
Judge Cunningham agreed and adjourned the cases until May 19 for further information.
