BOHS HIT OUT AT LET OFF FOR CORK
BOHEMIANS have described the decision to issue Cork City with a warning over their breach of rules on substitutions as setting a ‘dangerous precedent’.
The Leesiders won the Women’s Premier Division game 1-0 late last month, with Eva Mangan scoring a late winner.
However, the Independent Disciplinary Committee ruled that they used too many ‘substitution opportunities’ during the game, but decided to issue a warning rather than a points deduction or a reversal of the result.
Five
Teams are allowed to make a total of five substitutions, but they must do so in three windows, excluding half-time and concussion incidents.
A statement on the decision yesterday read: “Following an investigation and the conclusion of a disciplinary process into an incident where Cork City FC made a fifth substitution using four separate substitution opportunities (excluding half-time and concussion substitutions) and thus breaching the League of Ireland Competition Rules during their SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division fixture with Bohemian FC on 30 March 2024, an Independent Disciplinary Committee issued a warning to Cork City
FC.”
Mistake
A Bohs reaction said: “The warning given means that the decision cannot be appealed.
“We feel this has set a dangerous precedent in the league — to both women’s and men’s football as they operate under the same set of rules. A mistake was made but this mistake had the potential to impact the result of the game.
“We respect the disciplinary committee and their independence but in this instance believe the wrong decision has been made.”
