City slicker despite spot kick Euro exit

PEP’S MEN CAN BOUNCE BACK AGAINST CHELSEA

-

WELL that’s one way of focusing on the Premier League – but I bet nobody thought that all three title contenders would exit Europe this week.

Manchester City gained the advantage in the battle for supremacy in England last week, but due to cup action this weekend, Arsenal will play twice in the league before Pep Guardiola’s men go to Brighton next Thursday.

The idea of a Manchester derby FA Cup final last season was an intriguing one – until we saw the match. One early goal later and you always felt City would win.

That is why I don’t want to see a repeat after this weekend’s Wembley semi-finals, but can Chelsea or Coventry do anything about it?

It was delightful to see the City halo slip somewhat in midweek even if it took Real Madrid to make it come unstuck.

They face a Chelsea side this evening that has home town, if not home ground advantage. I doubt that will be enough.

Their form is good, though, and despite the rumblings against Mauricio Pochettino, they have not lost for over a month.

That includes that incredible win against Manchester United and Monday night’s thumping of Everton, so they should be better rested for this.

It remains to be seen if going to penalties against Real tires out City enough to level the playing field.

I reckon something good is happening at Chelsea, they would be on for top six had they not thrown some silly points away in the league.

Pressure

But they are a developing side, it is just that when the pressure is on at the moment, I think they get a bit soft.

And so it is City I expect to win and I will go with wins of 2-0 and 2-1 at odds of 17-2 and 15-2 respectively.

It would be wonderful if Coventry could get to the final and it is not as if they have the Championship as a distraction the chances of them making the play-offs now are slim.
