DUA Lipa believes more pop stars should take control of their careers.

Earlier this year the singer launched Radical22, her own management, production and publication company, and bought the rights to her back catalogue.

She believes it was one of the smartest decisions she’s made and is encouraging her peers to follow suit and take charge.

Dua shared: “It’s about having control over my music, having the final say over what happens to it, how it gets synced.

“As an artist, it’s important to understand that this is a business. I’ve had to learn so much, so many things that you don’t expect are part of this job.”

Dua even hired her father as her management, and says the two of them are across every detail of her career.

She added: “It was very easy to say, ‘This is the person that I trust the most with everything’. He’s my best friend, we have such an open dialogue and that’s why I feel so in control, because there’s not a single email or thing that we wouldn’t talk about.

“Being in control of your name, your company… It would be cool if [other artists] are looking and wanting to reevaluate their set-ups.”

The Houdini hitmaker admits that in

COWBOY fever has got to everybody – including rapper Future and film producer Taika Waititi.

The gents rocked crocodile boots and white suits in a short western-inspired promo for Belvedere Vodka.

The video sees the pair engage in a complicated handshake. Taika, who is wed to Rita Ora, not only stars but directed the clip and enjoyed playing in it with “humour and rebelliousness”. the past she was too quick to trust others.

She also told MusicWeek: “I think I trusted that other people knew better than me, and in some ways they did because they were more experienced. But I’ve just been learning to follow my gut and do the learning myself, rather than rely on other people’s knowledge.”

Fairies

Despite taking charge, Dua reckons pop stars are still overlooked because “people mistake us as being away with the fairies”.

In June, Dua will prove doubters wrong when she headlines Glastonbury, which has always been her goal. She said: “Any song I’ve ever made, when I hear it back, I’m like, ‘How would this sound at Glastonbury?”

The songstress added: “That has always been my barometer. To get to headline is just absolutely surreal.”

Dua Lipa’s latest album Radical Optimism is out May 3.
