HAVERTZ STARS AGAINST HIS FORMER ARSENAL HIT

THIS was a glorious statement of intent from Arsenal last night.

And all done to the tune of their favourite chant for two-goal Kai Havertz, who piled on the misery for his old club. Chelsea’s secondhalf collapse was nothing short of embarrassi­ng and no wonder the away end was virtually empty well before the final whistle. They had seen enough of yet another dismal display which will only pile the pressure on

Mauricio Pochettino as Arsenal ran them ragged to go three points clear at the top.

Chant

Havertz was brilliant as his performanc­e almost summed up his time at the Emirates and it is no wonder the home fans chant sarcastica­lly: “£60m down the drain — Kai Havertz scores again.”

Chelsea fans were queuing up last summer to delight in telling Arsenal how they had got it wrong in signing a player who never quite fulfilled his potential at Stamford Bridge.

But to his great credit, Mikel Arteta has got the best out of the Germany forward and has him playing like a world-beater.

Even when Havertz missed a big chance in the first half, he did not let his head drop and responded with two second-half goals and he celebrated with the sort of enthusiasm which showed it meant the world to him.

Ben White was also on target with two goals while Chelsea’s defending was nearly as bad as their finishing because Nicolas Jackson missed a hat-trick of gilt-edged chances.
