‘Sheer evil to dump 400 syringes in public park’
A SHOCKED dad who discovered more than 400 used syringes and blood vials as well as other biohazardous waste in a public park has slammed whoever dumped them there as “sheer evil.”
Stephen Redmond, from Finglas in west Dublin, made the shocking discovery at the weekend while walking in Northway Estate Park.
He said he was “absolutely disgusted and shocked” on making the horror discovery of the needles, blood vials and other biohazardous waste carelessly dumped close to a wall in the park.
The park is popular with local children to play in, people walking their dogs and youngsters playing on the football pitch, located just 15 metres from where the dumping took place.
Concerned for the safety of the people who frequent the area, Stephen reported the dumping to local gardai and Dublin City Council — who sent a team yesterday to safely remove the paraphernalia.
“I was horrified with the amount that was dumped,” Stephen told this paper yesterday. “A child could have easily picked one of the used syringes up and pricked themselves or a dog could have easily walked into the area where they were dumped and hurt themselves.
HAZARD: Used syringes
Purpose
“The sheer scale of it was unbelievable. There were over 400 needles, blood vials and other medical tubes. I initially thought maybe drug users dumped the stuff there but this is large-scale dumping. Whoever did this is sheer evil. It had to have been done on purpose.”
In a statement, gardai said: “An Garda Síochána received a report and the matter is currently under investigation by Gardaí in Finglas, Dublin 11.”
