The grandfather of the nation appointed the new Taoiseach, hosted former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and continued on with his work in the month since it happened.
Despite the goodwill of the
Irish people that he should take it easy and recover in peace, he wouldn’t let us down by giving up work.
The same support isn’t shown to the presidential nominees as America prepares to elect its potential oldest-ever president in November.
The Biden v Trump rematch has candidates that have both seen better days. Biden, looking more frail and elderly by the day and making daily gaffes. And Trump, currently on trial facing 34 felony counts in New York, is detached from reality.
These octogenarians should learn you don’t have to lead a country to live a full and fulfilled life.
THE NFL Draft has begun and teams are battling it out for the best players. The three-day event of negotiations, tradings and selections is more of a business trade than a sport signing.
The No 1 pick in the NFL draft traded hands almost a year ago when Carolina Panthers gave it to the Chicago Bears to move up to take Bryce Young as the first overall. The signed players are expected to move cross-country, perhaps to a place they’ve never been.
The wheeling and dealing is a far cry from the GAA where players must play for their own county.
There is no parochial support. There are no long lines of family history or generations of players.
Playing in the NFL is elite, but there’s no pride like representing your home town.
