THREE Irishmen were remanded in custody in Australia yesterday charged with stealing over €612,000 in cash, jewellery and luxury goods during dozens of robberies.

Christie McDonagh (19), Michael McDonagh (24) and James Connors (25), of no fixed abode, were brought to Melbourne Magistrates Court.

It’s alleged the men, who entered Australia in the last six months, carried out a spate of “sophisticated residential burglaries” in 60 homes in the city since January.

Most of these alleged offences occurred while the occupants were away from their homes.

It is also alleged that after breaking in, the trio used cleaning products to cover their tracks.

Cops have alleged they were part of a wider syndicate, which led to the arrests of three other Irishmen in March in connection to house raids in Melbourne between January and March this year.

Investigators recovered more than €230,000 and designer jewellery allegedly stolen from these two properties.

A police spokesperson said “Investigators are continuing to probe if both groups are linked to any other unsolved burglaries.”
