WEXFORD v GALWAY

-

Today (4pm): Chadwicks Wexford Park, S Stack (Dublin)

HOME VERDICT:

11/4

GAAGO

WEXFORD are fighting on their backs again.

Last year they were on the verge of being relegated out of the

Liam MacCarthy Cup to the Joe McDonagh, but summoned a huge fight to oust Kilkenny and preserve their All-Ireland status.

That is under threat again here after a draw with Dublin and a shock defeat in Antrim.

And yet, they were five up late on against Dublin, but leaked two late goals.

Also, a win here and suddenly they’re back in the hunt for a top three spot and possibly a Leinster final.

But they need more players to take the heat off Lee Chin, who is carrying them up front, with Rory O’Connor also chipping in.

Galway weren’t great against Kilkenny last week, considering the Cats were without Eoin Murphy, Eoin Cody and Adrian Mullen.

Leaking 29 points was poor considering who

Kilkenny were missing.

Galway scored six of the last eight points to claim a draw. You could interpret that as character, or question how they were four behind late on despite scoring two goals to Kilkenny’s zero.

Conor Whelan’s ability to win any kind of ball stood out, as did Galway’s patience for Gavin Lee’s goal.

AWAY Threat

It looks like they’ve lost Darren Morrissey for the season after he fell awkwardly on his shoulder.

Johnny Glynn got 15 minutes at the end and looked a threat. Evan Niland came on to take over the frees from Conor Cooney. He had seven shots and scored them all.

Wexford will get a backlash from the

Antrim defeat, but they tend to fare better against Kilkenny than Galway.

The Wexford crowd on a today can be a huge factor. We’re going for a shock home win here.
