Woman dies on adventure excursion in Philippines

TRIBUTES have been paid for an Irish woman who tragically died after falling ill while canyoneering in the Philippines last week.
Meg Haugh (26) from Ballintemple in Cork had been with a group when she fell ill on Thursday the Sun Star newspaper in the Philippines reports.
It is understood that they were in Badian, travelling through canyons and waterfalls when the tragedy happened, When Meg fell sick the group had difficulty in contacting emergency services due to their location.
Doctor
Many, including a doctor, provided medical assistance, before emergency services arrived an hour after she fell sick. She was taken to Badian District Hospital where she later died.
Rescuer Clydiejun Baratbate said: “The reception of the signal is not good here because you still have to go up a bit [to get a signal]...”
Avondale United in Ballintemple cancelled matches at the weekend as a mark of respect for committee member Richard Haugh, Meg’s father.
In a statement they said they learned of her death with “heavy hearts” and said “our thoughts” are with the family.
JOHNNY Logan is set for a spectacular return to the Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday night in Sweden – 37 years after he last won it as a singer with his song, Hold Me Now.
Logan, who is regarded as Eurovision royalty having won the contest three times – is thrilled to be returning as a guest performer in tonight’s semi-final.
Logan has been announced as an interval act.
Announcing it on social media, Johnny, who first won the Eurovision in 1980 with the Shay Healy song, What’s Another Year? said: “I’m extremely honoured and excited to have been asked to perform as a guest on May 7 at the Eurovision, Malmo.
“Sweden has won seven times, as has Ireland.”
