Galway leapfrog lacklustre Gypsies

- by DARYL GERAGHTY

GALWAY United grabbed a massive victory against a lackluster Bohemians side with Maurice Nugent’s first-half match winner proving enough on the day to send his side above Bohemians in the table on goal difference.

The visitors, despite playing the last half an hour with 10-men, took the points West with a rock solid defensive display without being tested.

In a quick turnaround from Friday night, both sides went to battle in front of 4,101 at a slightly quieter Dalymount

Park

In their previous meeting at Eamonn Deacy Park, coincidentally Alan Reynolds first win as Bohs boss and the last time the Tribesmen tasted defeat, it was dangerman Dayle Rooney who did the damage that night with two assists.

Fresh

But thankfully for John Caulfield and his team, the Ballymun man was missing on this occasion, but allowed Danny Grant an opportunity in one of four changes to Friday night.

The fresh legs didn’t seem to rejuvenate the home side as Alan Reynolds would have hoped and it was the visitors who grew into the game, looking much the hungrier and deservedly took the lead after 20-minutes.

Maurice Nugent showed great feet to cut in from the endline before hammering his shot low to the near post.

Gypsies stopper Kacper Chorazka did well to get down sharply to save initially but unfortunately saw the ball take a wicked bounce, spinning up and over him eventually trickling over the line.

On the hour mark Karl O’Sullivan received a second yellow for a tough challenge.

The hosts with the man advantage huffed and puffed in possession as the minutes ticked away but couldn’t get back in the game.
