A LITTLE boy who died in a tragic road crash yesterday has been named locally as Hunter Molloy.

The youngest child of Alisha and Peter Molloy, Hunter, who was nearly a year and a half old, passed away at University Hospital Limerick as a result of injuries sustained in the horror road traffic incident.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm yesterday in a residential area on Quin Road in Ennis, Co Clare.

It is understood the child was one of three siblings.

Gardai confirmed a Family Liaison Officer has been sent to support the little boy’s family.

Mayor of Ennis Cllr Pat Daly said the loss has brought great shock and sadness to the town of Ennis.

“It’s a very sad day for the family and not only the family but everyone here in Ennis who are shocked and saddened by the tragic news,” Cllr Daly told this paper.

”Our prayers and thoughts are with the little boy’s family.”

Meanwhile, a heartbroken aunt of little Hunter paid tribute to her nephew in an online post saying she was only playing with him two minutes before the tragic incident.

“My little nephew,” the aunt wrote: “I was playing with you two minutes before you passed away. My heart can’t take no more. Please Lord, take me away from this cruel world. RIP our Hunter. May you get the best bed in heaven. Get our Peter and Alisha through this heartache.”

Another friend wrote: My heart breaks for the Molloy family. So sorry for yer loss. Little angel has gone too soon from this cruel world. God help your poor family at this extremely hard time,” while another wrote: “RIP baby boy. So sorry for the family’s loss.

I’ve never in my life seen sadder.”

And another wrote: “Really sad news to hear the loss of Alisha and Peter’s little baby boy who passed away. God and Our Lady may mind the Molloy family at this awful sad time.”

Yesterday afternoon, gardai remained at the scene and the area in the vicinity was closed off pending an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.

In a statement, Gardai said: “A male infant was transferred from the scene to University Hospital Limerick. He has since been pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.

“The scene is currently preserved pending an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.”
