Pat flattered that Brad ‘copied accent’ for Snatch
PAT Shortt has opened up about reportedly inspiring Brad Pitt’s Traveller accent in Guy Ritchie’s Snatch.
The actor and comic said he was “flattered” when he heard the Hollywood heartthrob admitted he based his Traveller accent on either his Father Ted character Tom or Jon Kenny’s Fred Rickwood in the blockbuster movie.
Pat told us: “I’ve heard that story. Well it makes sense. I know the reason, do you? He was going out with Jennifer Aniston at the time.
“She was in LA and he was supposed to be in London but he was spending more time with her and he had an Irish voice coach who sent him on the tapes to do a bit of research.
“And that is how it happened.
“Nobody knows — was it me or Jon Kenny? Nobody knows.”
In 2019, Brad revealed during a press junket with Margot Robbie for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood how he nails the Irish accent so well.
Asked if he found it tough to nail an Irish accent for The Devil’s Own, Brad said: “That was probably more extreme
– there is a real music to Northern Ireland that I click into, that I kind of adored.”
Pitt told Joe.ie: “My ‘Pikey’ – do we still use that word? – accent was pretty good. Which is amazing, because I was going off a performance of a guest star on a Father Ted episode.”

Pat was speaking on the red carpet as he joined a host of famous faces on Wednesday night at the Light House Cinema in Dublin for the premiere of Netflix’s new Irish crime series Bodkin.
The dark comedy series was produced by Barack and Michelle Obama as part of their deal with Netflix.
Cast in attendance included Siobhán Cullen, Robyn Cara, Chris Walley, David Wilmot, Will Forte, Pom Boyd and Fionnula Flanagan.
Bodkin was filmed in various locations across Ireland.
