- ■■Nicola DONNELLY

THE priest who married the distraught parents of accident victim Hunter Molloy has said “there are no words that can relieve the pain”.

Fr Tom Ryan spoke as heartbroken family and friends flooded social media with blue hearts in tribute to 18-month-old Hunter.

The tot died after being knocked down by a car on Wednesday afternoon at the Ballaghboy Halting Site on the Quin Road in Ennis.

He was transferred to University Hospital Limerick, where he sadly died from his injuries.

Fr Ryan, who held a prayer service on Wednesday evening for Hunter, said:

“Wednesday was a very sad day for the Molloy family and indeed for the whole community who live in the halting site in Ballaghboy on the Quin road.”

He told Clare FM that Hunter’s parents Peter and Alisha are finding it very difficult “because you don’t expect a healthy child to go out one moment and never to come back in again”.

He added: “His parents are finding it very, very difficult and Alisha is expecting another child in the coming weeks so you have birth on one side of their life and ‘SAD DAY’: Fr Tom Ryan death on the other side and just devastation and confusion.

“In an instant life changed for the Molloys and, indeed, all those who knew this little boy Hunter and it’s tragedy that has come upon them and devastation in their lives at this moment.

“There are no words that can relieve the pain at this time.”

Grief

“In an instant life changed and will never be the same again because of the tragic accident that happened and the life of a young 18-month-old child who has died and has left his parents, his sisters, his family and an entire community in grief.

“And in the turmoil of emotions they are finding it difficult to cope, but with the help and support of their own families and the wider community they will get through the coming days that are going to be difficult for them.”

Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in for little Hunter, with one person writing on social media: “May God give you the best bed in heaven and pray for his mum, dad, sisters, relatives and friends and the whole Traveller community.”

They added: “We all feel your family’s pain and loss. Gone but never forgotten little angel.”
