Oh Boyd, I have a fear of sex scenes

THE Dry star Pom Boyd has opened up about doing “awful” sex scenes with co-stars – admitting she had the “fear” of kissing her new boyfriend on the show.

The actress, who stars in season two of the RTE One show, opened up about how she initially had “the fear” when directors told her her character Bernie was getting a love interest.

Michael McElhatton joins the cast as Bernie’s new boyfriend Finbar and causes chaos in the Sheridan household.

Pom said: “I think every actress has the fear and actor, I’m sure, I’m not saying it’s at all on the actress. But yes, I have had the fear. And I did have the fear with this. I was like, ‘oh my god, what am I going to have to do? Who is it going to be?’

“Anyway, it was all fine. And nowadays, you also have intimacy coordinators on the set, which are directors and that kind of lends everything, it gives it a different thing because you get a bit tense talking about it and some actors respond well to it and some don’t.

“But it does give a space where you can kind of go, you know, ‘are you okay with this?’ And it’s literally choreographed, you do this, you do this, you do this. So there’s no sort of sudden diving in when action is called because usually you the old way was the director would look the other way, they would be mortified and you would just be told to get on with it.”

Pom recalled trying to act out “awful” sex scenes on a film set one morning, describing how difficult it was without the help of intimacy coordinators at the time.

She said: “You’d be trying to do something really dodgy. I remember one in particular, trying to act passionate at eight o’clock in the morning on a set in Berlin, it was awful. Awful.”
