DOIREANN Garrihy has said she was “stumped” by the reaction to her news that she was leaving RTE after five years.

She made the shock announcement on Wednesday morning and told her Instagram followers the reaction to her news was “phenomenal”.

The 31-year-old said: “I just wanted to say a massive thank you also for all the messages over the past few days.

“It’s so funny, you can just be so stumped by support sometimes.

“I know there are such lovely supporters out there but until you announce something like this, a big change or a new venture, only then do you see just how many people are behind you and support you and it has just been phenomenal over the past few days.

“Thank you so much. It is such a lovely feeling to know that people have your back and are like, ‘go for it’.”

Ventures

Doireann shocked colleagues when she released a statement, saying: “After 5 years of 2FM Breakfast it’s time for ventures new. Donncha and Carl, I have found brothers for life in you both.”

Doireann will present her final 2FM Breakfast with Doireann, Donncha and Carl on Friday, May 31.

Head of RTÉ 2FM, Dan Healy, said: “Doireann is an exceptional broadcaster and has been a very important part of team at 2FM. Everyone in the station is sorry to hear she has decided to leave.

“I am very proud of the breakfast show that Doireann presented with Donncha and Carl which has been loved by the audience and very successful in the JNLRs.

“Personally, I’m sorry to see her leave, but I respect Doireann’s decision and I wish her the very best for the future.”
