TOTTENHAM v BURNLEY

- ■■Jon WEST

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has vowed to ruin a royal weekend just days after he was invited to Buckingham Palace.

Tottenham manager Postecoglou was a guest of Britain’s King and Queen at a sunsoaked summer garden party on Wednesday.

Today sees Spurs host Burnley – the club closest to Charles’ heart – and the Clarets will be down if they don’t win.

Postecoglou, like many Australians, was not prepared to do the Establishment any favours though.

Happy

“I would be happy to disappoint him on that front - no problem,” he said.

Postecoglou revealed his invitation, which extended to his wife plus fellow Spurs Aussies Mile Jedinak, Scott Munn, Charlie Grant, came via the Ozzie government.

Big Ange posed for pictures with fellow attendees but admitted he didn’t get to within “10 feet” of the king.

Which is just as well because the Greeceborn boss might have said too much about certain ancient artefacts in the British Museum.

“If I had of got closer I probably would have asked him about the Parthenon marbles and got thrown out,” added the former Celtic gaffer.

Tottenham have lost their last four games and have let in 13 goals against Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The thought of helping bitter rivals Arsenal win the league instead is the worst nightmare for many Spurs die-hards.

But any hope that Postecoglou will tell his players they are free to throw in the towel has already been dashed.

Spurs need to overturn a seven-point deficit to pip Aston

Villa for the last Champions League slot – and Ange reckons it is still possible.

He said: “I don’t give up on anything. I’m here fighting tooth and nail every single day for everything I can get for this club – that’s my responsibility.

“I would not give up on any cause, even the most lost of causes.”

Devil

Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany says he was never tempted to “sign a pact with the devil” to survive with Burnley.

Burnley are staring down the barrel of relegation today but Kompany says he was not prepared to gamble the club’s future by signing expensive players on big contracts.

He said: “It’s not like we didn’t know the options we had. You enter a restaurant, look at the menu and you know what you’re gonna get, so we knew what options we had.

“You get more experience, pay more money, they’re higher risk. All these kind of things where you sign a pact with the Devil almost just to get through.”
