NUNO: WE’VE A JOB TO DO

- ■ Neil MOXLEY

NOTTINGHAM Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo insists his side still have a job to do in order to avoid Premier League relegation.

Forest are all-but safe going into their final game against Burnley tomorrow as they are three points above 18thplaced Luton with a better goal difference of 12.

For them to return to the Championship it would need them to lose heavily at Turf Moor and also Luton to beat Fulham by a hefty scoreline.

But Nunon (inset) is guarding against complacency.

“It’s very important for us to finish well, play a good game and compete well, this is how we prepare it,” he said.

“There is still a game to go, we know how football is, the best approach we can have is that we prepare the same way, all the details we can with the same commitment.

“We are clear what can happen, it is up to us, it is in our hands to mathematically achieve what we want.”

Nuno has had difficult circumstances to deal with since taking over from Steve Cooper in December, with a crippling injury list, a four-point deduction for breaking financial rules, contentious VAR decisions and losing six players to the African Cup of Nations.

Asked whether staying up would be a special achievement, Nuno said: “We still have to finish the job and when we finish the job we can talk about these things but definitely credit to the players.

“It was very tough, they were always committed to improve and win matches. When we achieve we will speak.”

Meanwhile, with Burnley already destined for the Championship next term, boss Vincent Kompany has some decisions to make about out-of-contract players like Charlie Taylor, Jack Cork and Jay Rodriguez.

He said: “Some decisions you make, some decisions others make.

“Obviously we have a few players out of contract so in that sense, I think hopefully we will be able to communicate something together in the next few days.

“Common sense prevails in any event.”

Josh Brownhill’s contract is about to run out but the club are executing their option to extend by 12 months.
