He­hir’s timely boost for marathon bid

Sean He­hir, one of Ire­land’s rep­re­sen­ta­tives in next Sun­day’s World Cham­pi­onship marathon, won theChurch­town South ‘5’ road race on Fri­day night.

He fin­ished had 23 sec­onds to spare over James McCarthy (East Cork).

Alan O’Shea, third on the night, is still the over­all leader of the four-race Se­ries which con­cludes in Bal­ly­cot­ton on Au­gust 24.

He­hir joins an il­lus­tri­ous list of former win­ners of the race which started off back in 1980.

This win­ner of the women’s race was Sinead Ke­vany from Mi­dle­ton in 31:23, now the clear over­all leader in the Sum­mer Se­ries.

He­len Leonard (Lee­vale) was again sec­ond in a time of 32:25 with Jes­sica Bru­ton, also Lee­vale, tak­ing third in 32:38.
