Hole-in-one fundraiser for community projects

Golfers have a chance to pocket to €500 in a bank holiday round to help aid a community group.

An anonymous donor has offered the cash to anyone who grabs a hole-in-one at the 11th on Fermoy Golf Club this coming Friday.

And if you land the ball on the green, there’s a sleeve of golf balls.

The offers are part of a fundraiser to assist Castlelyons Community Projects in their works at Fr Ferris Park.

Teams can still book a tee time and with generous sponsors in support, the organising committee is hoping golfers will get the May holiday weekend off to a great start by supporting the community group.

Anyone wishing to enter a team-of-three for €90 can contact Killian at 087-9770458 for a tee-time.

All funds raised will go towards Castlelyons Community Council projects, mainly in Fr Ferris Park.

The park provides a children’s playground and the pitch is used by Castlelyons Juvenile GAA; Castlelyons Camogie Club; Castlebridge Celtic FC; St Nick’s Athletic Club; Castlelyons Senior GAA; walkers who find its safety very appealing, and dog walkers. Parents also make great use of the children’s playground when collecting children from the national school, and many just come to relax.

Currently, there are plans to update the much-used amenity and also plans to add new facilities, the most pressing need, however, is to surface the upper tier of the car park and resurface the allweather walkway.

The council said some debt has yet to be paid off but it has negotiated very satisfactory terms with the bank. The group has thanked its hardworking committee and generous sponsors, especially Brian O’Sullivan CEO of Zeus Packaging and a Castlelyons native who kindly sponsored the prizes.

The 11th hole at Fermoy Golf Club will be the scene of competition on Friday with a €500 prize for whomever nabs a hole-in-one there.
