Irish Examiner - County - - News - Seán O’Riordan

George Formby would be proud of a festival scheduled to return to Cobh on May 25.

It will be the third time that Cobh has hosted a Ukulele Festival and performers will come from all over Ireland and further afield.

International musicians Nico’o and the Kapiolani Boyz from Biarritz will join the festival, following on from their huge success and crowd-appeal during the 2016 festival. The ever-popular Ukulele Tuesdays of Stag Head’s Fame were first in to secure their place for this year’s event which will run up to May 27. Groups from Carrigaline, Aghada and Cork city will also participate.

To welcome their musical visitors, the organisers will host a ‘Meet and Greet’ event at Cobh Heritage Centre on Friday, May 25. The event is open to the general public too.

As part of the development aspect of the festival, workshops for children and adults will take place at Cobh Library and The Sirius Arts Centre.

A free concert will take place in the heritage centre on the Saturday where Nico’o and the Kapiolani Boyz will headline, with the Ukulele Tuesdays and Gilbert’s Lane in support. Saturday and Sunday afternoons will see Summer Swing take on a Ukulele theme.
