Old Christians to host inter-pro tie
There will be a party atmosphere at Old Christians Rugby Football Club on May 12 when they host the junior inter-pro game between Munster and Connacht (1.30pm).
The club is pulling out all the stops for the match, and is organising food stalls, music and refreshments to mark the occasion.
Honorary secretary Adrian O’Connell said it a great honour for the club to have been selected by the Munster Branch to host the game and they look forward to showcasing their club and facilities that weekend.
“The last time we were given that honour was in November, 1986 when Munster played Leinster. In that Munster team were Barry Daly, the club’s current chairman; Barry Hill, club trustee, and Dominic Harrington, former president,” Mr O’Connell noted.
Old Christians is the only comprehensive rugby club in the northside of Cork City and caters for players from U7 in the mini rugby section, to U20 in the youth section.
It has two rugby teams at adult level and two female teams.
The club has three full-size pitches, one floodlit to match standard, plus floodlit training areas, a gym, a large hall, six dressing rooms and an allweather pitch. Membership is open to all, whether you have played before, or are a complete novice.
“This is a fabulous opportunity for all of our members, friends and anyone associated with our club to get together for what will be one of the greatest days in our history,” Mr O’Connell added.
At the opening of Old Christians astro training pitch were Charlie Buckley, president Munster Branch IRFU, Emily O’Connell, club president; Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Fergal Dennehy and Barry Daly, club president
