Foróige to increase and develop services in north Cork.

Foróige is to increase and develop volunteer-led youth services in the north Corkwest Waterford area, having received funding from the Tomar Trust.

The youth development body said it is a massive opportunity to further develop youth services locally, and for individuals to get involved in new and exciting roles which will benefit young people, volunteers, and the community.

Foróige will be focusing on establishing new clubs in areas that are yet to benefit from a Foróige presence, as well as strengthening existing clubs in some communities.

Emma Browne, club development worker with Foróige, said: “This is such an exciting time for communities and volcome unteer-led youth work in north Cork.

“I was a volunteer with Foróige for five years myself, so I know first hand how beneficial the experience can be to the young people.

“I often find volunteers get just as much out of the whole experience as the young people themselves.

“Foróige is all about enabling young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their development, and in the development of society.”

She said: “In the coming year in the north Cork area, we are hoping to grow the numbers of Foróige volunteers with this incredible opportunity which has been made possible by Tomar Trust.

She urged interested people who feel they can make a positive contribution to the young people’s lives in their local communities to get in touch.

“Foróige will provide you with amazing training and opportunities to learn and grow as a person,” said Emma.

Along with Foróige clubs for all young people aged between 13 and 18, there’s also Foróige Juniors — suitable for 10-12-year-olds. A youth café, meanwhile, is an example of a volunteer-led club which acts as a safe environment for youths to hang out, relax, and interact with peers.

There’s also special interest groups where youths can together to practise or share a common interest, such as computers and technology, arts and crafts, music, and dance.

Volunteers in the north Cork area who are interested in assisting Foróige can contact Emma on 086-4134777 or email emma.browne@foroige.ie #WeAreForóige
