Flat tyre fails to put brakes on Louise and Phillip’s big day
NOT even a flat tyre could stop Louise Ahern and Phillip Mulcahy’s wedding party from getting to the church on time. The limo suffered the mishap while ferrying the groomsmen to the ceremony at the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne (the North Cathedral). “The driver had to change it quickly before collecting the bridesmaids but all was well that ended well!” said Louise.
Louise, from Dublin Hill, Cork, and Phillip, from Shannon, Co Clare, held their reception in the Garryvoe Hotel.
Photographer John Sexton captured the occasion on camera, including photoshoots at Fota House and Garryvoe beach.
Louise’s friend Paulette Neer was her chief bridesmaid with another friend, Pauline Kett, by her side as bridesmaid.
Phillip’s friend Donncadh Kelly was best man with his brother David Mulcahy and childhood friend Mark Scully as groomsman.
The couple’s son Fionn Mulcahy, two, enjoyed the key role of pageboy.
Louise and Phillip met through the dating website Plenty of Fish in 2013 and he popped the question during a holiday in Hamburg, Germany, in December 2015. “We had a wonderful wedding day as I had planned it over two years,” said Louise. “It was a scorcher of a day and we celebrated with our families and friends who travelled from near and far.
“My grandaunt Anna Hayes was present on our big day. She is in her 80s but is still the life and soul of the party.” The bride enjoyed taking centre stage with wedding band The Boogie Band for a rendition of the Thin Lizzy classic “The Boys are Back in Town”.
Louise looked stunning in a Nicole Spose design sourced in Diamond Bridal, Maylor Street, Cork, with hair and makeup by Christine O’Sullivan of Creation Hair and Nail Studio, Turner’s Cross. The videography on the big day was by Bluewire Media while the floral arrangements, with bouquets featuring sunflowers, were by Petals Floral Design.
Singer and harpist Claire Heffernan, Limerick, provided the church music while Brian Roche of Baker Boy Cakes created the five-tier wedding cake.
Garryvoe Hotel’s general manager Stephen Belton went above and beyond to ensure that everything went according to plan. “Nothing was too much trouble. We were treated like royalty,” said Louise.
The newlyweds honeymooned in Orlando and Miami and enjoyed a visit to Universal Studios and Disney World.
The bride, a medical scientist, and groom, live in Raheen, Co Limerick.
