Cork singers and musicians will come together this Sunday for a Simon Community fundraiser which has become an annual event.
The ‘All-Star Concert for Cork Simon’ at the Mills Inn in Baile Mhúirne has raised over €6,000 since its inception in 2014.
The event aims to entertain while raising money for a good cause, explained one of its organisers, Mary Greene, of Cork trio Greenshine.
“We want this to be more than a fundraiser.
“It would be very hard to top last year’s concert but we think we have a great night planned, with something to suit everyone,” she said.
“The Cork Simon Community has been supporting and helping to accommodate the homeless for many years and with homelessness at crisis point, the Cork Simon Community needs our support more than ever,” Mary said.
The line-up includes Cork Americana and old-timey band Stayin’ Down Shoes, featuring guitarist and singer Sara Corkery, Brendan Butler of The Lee Valley String Band on vocals and mandolin, and Síona Knepper on stand-up bass.
Also appearing will be a traditional music trio made up of singer and concertina player Siobhán Ní Mhuimhneacháin, Louise Cronin on fiddle, and Micheál Cantillon Murphy on guitar.
Singer and guitarist Bobby Wolfe will perform songs from his new EP Steady
Foundations and there will be a set from Greenshine.
The Réidh na nDoirí-based family group are currently on the RTÉ Radio1 Recommends list with their new single ‘The Good is Gone’, which went straight in at No 2.
Surprise guests are also promised at the fundraising event.
P a s t p e r f o r m e r s h a ve included Tim O’Riordan, John Spillane, Hank Wedel, and Ger Wolfe.
Meanwhile, a raffle will be held and donations are welcome at the concert, which has no cover charge.
The event starts at 7.30pm on Sunday in the museum at the Mills Inn.
