Details of parenting supports at Cork event
A special event which provides helpful information around parenting and showcases a range of supports available to families in the Bandon and West Cork area will take place tonight.
Hosted by Matt Talbot Adolesc t Services, Cara Lodge, the event will feature John Lonergan, former governor of Mountjoy Prison, and psychotherapist Caroline Crotty, both of whom will address the topic ‘Parenting in These Challenging Times’.
The event takes place in Bandon Rugby Club from 7.30pm and is being held in collaboration with Tusla and local communities.
It will showcase supports offered by family-orientated organisations such as the Bandon Family Resource Centre, Dunmanway Family Resource Centre, and Bandon Foróige Youth Project.
“The objective is to show that there is support for families out there. There will be stalls providing information for people on how to access that suppor explaine rstieSmit senior child and family network coordinator with Tusla.
“We are hoping that families will go away with a sense of being supported by their local community in their role as parents — and have a better idea about how to access supports in their local community.
“All the local community supports have been invited to come along and have a stand on the night representing their services.
“This is the first such event in West Cork. We hope to organise similar events down the line,” said Ms Smith. She also said Mr Lonergan brought “a vast experience with him and an understanding of the difficulties parents may face in modern times”.
“He is willing to share this experience with us and answer any questions people care to ask,” she explained, adding that tea, coffee, and light refreshments will be available.
